Co-Simulation Training Program at TU Delft Elevates Power System Research

Delft, Netherlands – In a landmark collaboration, professors from Belgrade University recently concluded an advanced training program at TU Delft, focusing on real-time simulation techniques for hybrid power systems. This initiative, a testament to the growing importance of sophisticated simulation in power system research, marks a significant milestone in academic collaboration and technical skill enhancement.

The training, centered around the use of OPAL-RT and RTDS technologies, aimed to deepen understanding and practical skills in simulating complex power systems across various voltage levels. This endeavor aligns with the increasing global focus on sustainable and efficient energy systems.

Professors Goran Dobrić and Mileta Žarković were delegation from the University of Belgrade, delving into a comprehensive agenda that included lectures, workshops, hands-on practice, and collaborative discussions. Key highlights of the program included in-depth explorations of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems, Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC), and hands-on sessions on wind farm modeling and control strategies for MMC-HVDC systems.

The training program also facilitated an engaging exploration of OPAL-RT’s capabilities, enhancing participants’ abilities to integrate these tools into their research. A notable feature was the use of Python scripts with RTDS for acquiring real-time wind speed measurements, a critical aspect in renewable energy research.

In addition to technical skill-building, the visit fostered collaboration and idea exchange among participants and their counterparts at TU Delft, Seville University, and the University of Bilbao. This synergy promises ongoing cooperation and potential joint research projects.
