Day Two of the SUNRISE Summer School: Protections and Renewable Generation

On July 9, the 2nd SUNRISE Summer School continued with a full day dedicated to the topic “Protections and Renewable Generation.” The program featured lectures delivered by experts from partner institutions and industry.

🔹 Pablo Eguia, Associate Professor at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, gave two lectures:

  • Enhancing Distance Relay Testing with Hardware-in-the-Loop
  • Renewable Generation and Its Effects on Protection Systems: A Case Study

🔹 Dušan Kostić and Ognjen Petrović, from Typhoon HIL, presented:

  • Automating Substation Protection Testing: Unleashing the Power of Model-Based, Whole-System-Validation Approach

🔹 Caio Osorio and Ognjen Petrović, also from Typhoon HIL, held two sessions:

  • Integrated Simulation Environment: Streamlining the Development Cycle from Offline to Real-Time HIL Simulation (Part I & II)

🔹 The day concluded with a lecture by José María Maza Ortega, Full Professor at the University of Seville:

  • Modeling, Control and Simulation of Grid-Following VSCs: Part I

All lectures were held in the ceremonial hall of the Palace of Science, where every seat was filled, reflecting strong interest and active participation from attendees.
