SUNRISE Presentation at Twinning Info Day in Niš, September 15th, 2025

written by Leposava Ristić

Within the framework of the Twinning project “Twinning for Excellence in Adaptive Edge AI (AIDA4Edge),” the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Niš organized a Twinning Info Day on September 15 as an online event. According to the agenda, 12 Twinning projects—each at different stages of implementation and spanning diverse research fields—were presented. Each presenter had 15 minutes to introduce their project. All speakers were well-prepared and used their scheduled time effectively to explain the project concept, organization into work packages, and both planned and achieved results in an engaging and concise way.

Following the presentations, a well-structured and expertly moderated discussion took place, covering topics such as the Continuous Reporting module (System for Grant Management), Open Science, Risk Management, Interim Report Presentation, Financial Reporting, and IPR Reporting. The discussion lasted longer than scheduled due to the participants’ enthusiasm for sharing their experiences. All commendations to the AIDA4Edge team!

Reflecting on my own presentation, “Implementing Twinning Projects in the Context of Capacity Building,” I initially felt that I might have missed the core topic and had not provided the audience with sufficient information about the project itself. My preparation was guided by the fact that the SUNRISE project is concluding at the end of this calendar year, and I wanted to highlight its most significant achievement—the SMART GRID laboratory based on Power HIL equipment, which all project participants, as well as the entire School of Electrical Engineering University of Belgrade, are justifiably proud of.

Upon revisiting the event, and perhaps with a slightly less critical perspective :), I realized that if I succeeded in sparking the audience’s interest, familiarizing them with the Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) concept, and showcasing each component of this remarkable laboratory, then I may have also contributed toward one of the project’s main objectives: establishing the leading real-time power systems and microgrid laboratory in the Western Balkans region—both in terms of infrastructure and expertise—and attracting researchers and industry to use our facilities.

Time will tell, or perhaps next year’s Twinning Info Day in Niš will bring a new opportunity for a different presentation!
