Final day of the 2nd SUNRISE Summer School held at the Smart Grid Laboratory

The final day of the 2nd SUNRISE Summer School took place on July 11 at the Smart Grid Laboratory, located in the Palace of Science. The program featured a series of advanced lectures, live simulations, and demonstrations focused on control strategies for power converters, with a particular emphasis on real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.

The agenda included the following sessions:

  • Control Hardware in the Loop of grid-following VSCs using Typhoon HIL – delivered by Francisco Jesús Matas-Díaz, Assistant Professor at the University of Seville, together with the USE team
  • Control Hardware in the Loop of grid-forming VSCs using Typhoon HIL – presented by Manuel Barragán Villarejo, Associate Professor at the University of Seville, and the USE team
  • Experimental validation of VSC controller in the SUNRISE prototype – demonstrated jointly by the ETF team and the USE team

These sessions offered participants a valuable opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technologies, observe real-time testing setups, and interact directly with experts from the field.

At the end of the day, all participants received certificates of completion. The event concluded on a high note, with many attendees expressing their satisfaction and enthusiasm, as well as a keen interest in future editions of the Summer School.
